Deposit Issues and Complaints (134 reviews)
Deposits for electricity in New Jersey can be a hassle and usually range from $100 to $500. Some companies handle them well with lower deposit amounts or lower credit thresholds while others turn you upside down and shake the lunch money out of your pocket. If deposits are causing you issues, you can read deposit related reviews from other customers before you sign up for an energy company.

“ Tried to switch to Xoom. Had to pay $150 even though credit is 830 and am over 65. Xoom used the deposit for account payment instead of deposit. Got an email stating I switched to Xoom. Two months later I had to call them and was not switched, said my application was now outdated. So now gas has skyrocketed and am stuck looking for another company. Xoom are liars and should not be trusted. Even with an acct number did not get switched. Made three phone calls with no help. No one in authority cares. ”

WORST UTILITY EVER. THEY JUST DON'T CARE
“ is this the way atlantic city electric treats it's elderly? i have a high fico score and a perfect payment history. this is my fault, i moved away from an area serviced by pse&g and stupidly moved south where i was stuck with atlantic city electric. at least pse&g workers are coherent and verbal. these guys just lie. i was lied to when i initiated service. i was lied to about the requirements for a security deposit. i was lied to about how long it would take for me to get my money back and now i finally have a a letter that states i will receive my $230 security deposit back on May 15, 2022 and they still do nothing. i call every day. i speak to a rep and a supervisor every day. get told every day "they see it in the system" "it's going to be applied" "but, no, sorry they can send me an email stating that". day after, month after month. there is always another reason, another excuse, another lie. i never get my money back. is the new way to treat the elderly in nj? ”

Lost employees
“
My deposit checks were mailed to the wrong address in the USA and had to be mailed back to Canada. It took several months to even find out where the checks were. Because of the my status was canceled and I was told I would have to set up another account that this one had expired so the checks will not be cashed
I was reassured of this. A week later my deposit checks were cashed from my account. Lol unbelievable. Not I'm told it will take another 30-40 days to get a check mailed out to me and now have to submit my personal banking info to get my money back. Just a horrible experience from day one. I'm sorry I would not recommend using this company. ”

Pour service
“ Order service and paid my deposit. Told me it would be turned on on the 4th of January. On the 19th my son said light was off. I called and they said they needed more documentation from. Never received a call nor email. Lost everything in fridge. Not happy at all. ”

Rip off
“ I requested new services backs in Oct. Oct 15th to be exact. I paid my deposit online. My services were supposed to be turned the next day. I called the next day to get an update and was told oh you werent approved I asked do you not call and let people know and the cs rep said no we dont do that then I had to argue with the rep about why I wanted to cancel and needed a refund. We are going on almost 3 months and I have still not received my refund. They have the worst customer service. That should shut down. They are a complete RIP OFF ”
