Deposit Issues and Complaints (134 reviews)
Deposits for electricity in New Jersey can be a hassle and usually range from $100 to $500. Some companies handle them well with lower deposit amounts or lower credit thresholds while others turn you upside down and shake the lunch money out of your pocket. If deposits are causing you issues, you can read deposit related reviews from other customers before you sign up for an energy company.
poor service. fine print they dont explain
“
moving so wanting transfer of service. want service discontinued at current location on 8/20. want service started at new location 8/18. have 55 days left on contract. you won't honor current contract terms to 10/9 as contract states because im too far into contract. transferring service for 55 days at the current terms sounds like the correct thing to do. in addition 2 late pays so you keep my $100 deposit. neither one feels like your treating me the correct way.
I spent 1.5 hours being pushed to 3 different people. Prior to that I was on hold for 50minutes before you disconnected me.
I think this is worth sharing on the reviews. ”

Misguiding!! Save your money and dont use them!
“ I was told when I decided to switch my service from TXU to Ambit if I signed up for the summer plan that my bill would be 1/2 off from June to the end of September. Now I had been with TXU for years but I thought this sounded like a great plan so I switched! Well when I get my June bill its definitely not 1/2 off like I was told. I had a 28.00 discount.. So this agent totally lied to me when I signed up. Now if I wanna change services I get penalized and I cant change my plan cuz its past the 30 days. I should have known after I paid an $80.00 deposit and 15 days later I have a $72.00 bill. Save the heartache and find a better company!!! ”

Fraudulent sale
“
I called to get my service transferred from my old address to a new address.Instead the representative Phace talked me and signed me up on a complete different plan and all I needed was my service transferred. He knew that I had a deadline and needed to be transfer it immediately he let me to believe that my service cannot be transferred unless it was canceled from my old address and sign up on a new plan so therefore I was charged extra money for counseling my old plain And then an additional $225.00 For a security deposit. I kept asking each time, Now what is this money for he knew that I did not understand and knew that he was not giving me the best service that will save me money. He was only concerned about the sale of the new plan.
and now when I called to talk to the managers they give me the runaround and tell me that my money is going towards my past account when I never shouldve been signed up on the new account in the beginning. All I wanted was my service transferred from one address to the othe. One of the supervisors name is Sebastian let me to believe that it is my fault because my wording was not correct! I will never never recommend anyone titties company and I will also tell everyone about my experience!
They keep saying that they are going to investigate my account and give me a call back to resolve the issue and its already been sense May that Ive been trying to get this issue resolved! ”

Unauthorized Annual Deposit
“ Direct Energy replaced my previous electricity provider without my knowledge or authorization. Direct Energy charged an annual deposit for an electricity service plan I did not request or agree to. When I discovered that Direct Energy had replaced my electricity provider without my knowledge or authorization, I switched to the electricity provider of my choice with terms and a rate I agreed to in advance. For the short period of time Direct Energy was my provider, I paid the monthly bill for the service provided by Direct Energy. However, I did not agree to a service plan with annual deposit for the electricity service that I used for a short period of time. I contacted the company to let them know that I did not request or agree to a short service plan with an annual deposit. Nevertheless, Direct Energy reported this unauthorized annual deposit to the credit reporting agencies.I encourage Direct Energy to reach out to me to resolve the issue. I will post an update on this website in the near future to report if Direct Energy took action to resolve the issue. ”
