Deposit Issues and Complaints (134 reviews)
Deposits for electricity in New Jersey can be a hassle and usually range from $100 to $500. Some companies handle them well with lower deposit amounts or lower credit thresholds while others turn you upside down and shake the lunch money out of your pocket. If deposits are causing you issues, you can read deposit related reviews from other customers before you sign up for an energy company.
Horrible, doesn't say enough about heir scustomer service
“ Don't waste your time. First it's impossible to switch to them without calling, then going through 20 minutes of sales pitches for everything under the sun. Then they scam you with requiring a $275 deposit after supposedly running a credit check. My wife and I have 800+ credit scores and perfect payment history. After an hour on the phone, then 45 minutes texting with someone from India on their chat links, they insisted it would take up to 3 days for someone to reach out to do a manual credit check....what did they use my social for the first time I called to transfer? Total joke of a company, definitely will not be going with them...ever! ”

The worst, even!!
“
I am a landlord, have a few properties where Jersey Central Power & Light is my service provider.
1. I have several accounts, ALL PAID ON TIME. Whenever I create a new account under my name they take $140 deposit and keep it for a year even when that account is closed.
2. When a tenant moves in, and the electricity to be transferred under his/her name, it is one of the most terrible times in my life. The process which takes 5 minuets with the gas company, for example, takes hours and days and several phone calls and shut down the electricity and we need documents, and we need to verify, and we will call you back, and nobody call back, and I (and the tenant) all again, and there's we are still verifying, and .... and ..... and..... it takes forever.
3. The customer service representatives can do nothing to help, can not contact other departments, can not look into the problem, can not.... can not..... can not.... Of course, and as a result, they hear a lot of bad things from the customers and many of them became unfriendly (compare between them and the gas companies or PSEG for example)
4. Also, looks like as a result too, all Jersey Central Power & Light phone numbers are reported as SPAM on all caller ID's. I guess that was done by several customers due to their level of frustration.
5. Hopefully, you lose your business in the area soon or be in trouble in lawsuits guys. You are the worst and most frustrating company I have ever seen. ”

Scam
“
Representative approached me in Sam's.
Nothing that was presented to me was real.
Price, contract, exit fees etc. Luckily for me, the no deposit wavier was denied before they even ran a credit check and I actually read the agreement I signed. I tried to contact "my representative" but customer service is in India and it is impossible to do regardless of what I was told. ”

Unparalleled Incompetence
“ I transferred my service literally four blocks away to a new residence. They charged me $500 for a deposit and kept the $500 deposit for the old residence. Now they have $1000 of money and there is no way of recovering the other 500.00 which was paid to them in error by my secretary. One hand does not know what the other is doing and it is intentional. I was given a bogus fax number to request the refund . They are sleazy. And based on all of the reviews I have read there needs to be a class action lawsuit. ”
