Deposit Issues and Complaints (134 reviews)
Deposits for electricity in New Jersey can be a hassle and usually range from $100 to $500. Some companies handle them well with lower deposit amounts or lower credit thresholds while others turn you upside down and shake the lunch money out of your pocket. If deposits are causing you issues, you can read deposit related reviews from other customers before you sign up for an energy company.
Horrible enrollment experience
“ Signed up online. When checking on credit for $150 deposit, failed because of credit freeze(didnt know until I signed up with power company). According to their waiver policy, I submitted my invoices from previous company, sent email about lifting credit freeze, etc.. all I got was an email saying my credit was good but decision for deposit was made and couldnt be changed. Called 3 times . Customer service reps were polite but no help. One girl even told me that their goal was to charge everyone with deposit so my understanding is as long as they find any thing missing at any time, they will do it. Cancelled enrollment and move to another company. Experience was day and night. ”

Horrible customer service
“ The service was ok, but when it came time to cancel my college daughter's account, they turned over the deposit to a third party to return. Two months later, I can't get them on the phone, and believe it is a scam to retain all deposits.I would not choose them again!!! ”

Not Vet Friendly, Sales Rep Retired on Duty
“ I did the online thing, and was told that I needed a $250 down payment. So I called, I had decent credit and spoke with one of their reps. I told them that I was a veteran, and I asked them if there was anything I could do about the down payment, I was shoved off on another couple of energy providers, both with no down but really high rates per kilowatt. So I wrote to the company. I did inform them that I would be leaving a very negative review, because as a veteran, I thought there would be something in it positive for veterans, and there was nothing in it. I found out that :The deposit is refundableThe deposit is dropped to $150 for veterans12 months of good payments with a prior electricity provider will cancel out the deposit.NONE of those options were offered NONE, nothing. So After shopping around, I resigned with TXU, at least, the devil you know. ”
